Honnestly I would not bother,
I'll second what Daniel said - for example, there are enough things using
libtool now that there are shared libs on HP-UX with the .so extension.
For IA64, yes. However, not for PA-RISC.
Also, it appears that for IA64 there are just a few .so's shipped by HP too:
# find /usr/lib -name "*.so*" | wc -l
659
# uname -a
HP-UX linger B.11.23 U ia64 4203217935 unlimited-user license
Isn't .so on HP/IA64 the default? Our box won't be in until next week :)
