[xml] undefined reference to xmlFree

I am trying to use xmllib version 2.6.18 with mingw 3.3 (Dev-cpp
4.9.9.2 release) but the linker stops with "undefined reference to
xmlFree".
i have added the library (libxml2.lib) at the project and the option
-DLIBXML_STATIC

any help?
