[xml] iconv not found

I have been trying to install libxml2-2.6.11 on OS X 10.3.4 and I have 
come found the following:

checking iconv.h usability... yes
checking iconv.h presence... yes
checking for iconv.h... yes
checking for iconv... no
checking for iconv in -liconv... yes

I have iconv in /usr/bin but ./configure can not find it.  I do not 
know if this will cause a problem or not?  Can someone let me know if a 
problem might arise.
