The logo for the Thunar file browser in XFCE is already based on a
Thor-like hammer because it resembles the letter T

Vala is part of the Tolkein legendarium set thousands of years before
the Lord of the Rings.  It is a bit complicated but think of it like
Genesis compared to the new testament.  The Valar are the spirit world
that gave birth to Middle Earth and the Elves and Men are their
children. Melkor was the fallen Vala and his lieutenant became the
Dark Lord Sauron
