The Mono project has never stated that it violates any patents, as far
as I know. Microsoft has granted all potential patents covering the
standardized C# programming language or the Common Language
Infrastructure (CLI) on a RAND and royalty-free basis, as Jamie already
wrote. IANAL but I don't believe that Vala would actually violate any
patents as there are only very few things that Vala shares with C# and
hasn't been already done in prior art (e.g. Java). Vala should be safe
in any case.
