Since there is a redesign planned I will take this opportunity to say I
actually like the menu based approach and I hope it can be preserved as an
option. Microsoft Windows has an option which allows the Control Panel
items to appear as a submenu rather than a single menu leading to a
control panel. Once you do know what you are looking for having the
control panel items directly in the menus does speed up the process a
little. The menu based approach doesn't work well presently because the
list of items is very long and things change too often for me to be really
sure which options I really want.
Presumably I could manually add back in .desktop files for each program in
the Control Panel but I would hope any redesign would allow an easier way
to continue using the current menu based approach. (Perhaps options in
the menu editor?)
