Mea culpa... it's a guideline I've been carrying around with me for
years, though, and I've kind of forgotten where it orginally came from

I already have a shortlist of things like this that I'd like to tweak in
the HIG over the next few days (which shouldn't really render any
existing compliant apps non-compliant), so if nobody has any usability
objections I'm happy to change this guideline as well.
