Interesting.
The programs like F-Spot are big monsters if you use it on netbook.
Especially if you use it only to import, tag and search photos. Most of
this can be done by tracker alone.
Shameless plug. Did you know about Solang:
http://projects.gnome.org/solang It is not as mature as F-Spot, yet,
and its UI needs to be tweaked a bit to make it work nicely with
smaller screens, but it uses Tracker for all sorts of things: tags,
exif, searching. However it does not do imports from cameras.
Normally all you see if you import photos from the camera, is a batch of
files. For me these are groups, like panorama, interval and normal
photos, audio comments and filtered or edited photos related to some
original photos. All of this is possible to interpret if they are on the
cam. After you import it this information is mostly lost.
My idea is to tag and group this photos on import, and safe this
information to tracker.
Sometime ago, on the Fedora lists there was a talk of a small
dedicated photo importer application:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-list/2008-November/msg00735.html
Earlier, it was unclear to me as to what is missing in F-Spot or
GThumb. But it looks like you have some ideas. Also, I think things
can be improved to fit into the Tracker way of doing things so that
the workflow fits in nicely with applications like Solang.

Thank you for the tip. It looks like there is currently no photo
downloader wich working with tracker. (rapid photo downloader do not
working with tracker)
I making some thouts about it, may be i'll make a try.
I need to know before some things.
How do i mark relations between files? For example:
- Image IMG1234.JPG has audio comment IMG1234.WAV. How do i tell it to
tracker.
- I import 3 panorama batches, IMG0001.JPG - IMG0006.JPG; IMG0007.JPG -
IMG00014.JPG. 1 is related to 2 -> 3 -> 4 ...-> 6 is not related to 7.
here beginn new batch. What is the best way to handle this?
- Image 1 hase modified version 2. Again, how do i handle this?
- Before i import some photos i need to know if there some ready
imported. Do you have special field for md5sum or what ever? or you
have other ideas?
regards,
Alexey
