Hi. Just for recording on font issue. In sawfish-1.3.5.3, Changelog says

        randomly (not in 1.3.5.1 and 1.5.0, but in 1.3.5.2, though this file

According to Gabor Z Papp, it seems that it happens also in 1.5.0.
(GZP says 1.5.0 svn)
