[patch] Anti init-failure in fonts.c

Hi, Chris. Please apply the attached patch which fixes breakdown
caused during font init failure, reported by Pettar Gustad and Gabor
Z. Papp.

I think this should be available both in 1.5.1 and 1.6, so 
it does not contain the patch for man/news.texi. You can use:
