GNOME changed from CVS to SVN, maybe that is why you can not get them.
Try svn co http://svn.gnome.org/svn/sawfish . I think there is anoncvs
server to be able to run CVS' diff cmd, etc to port changes to a SVN
tree (not tested myself). See http://live.gnome.org/SubversionMigration
