With respect to 3 (pam), its true it needs distro support, but then
again thats who we are, a distro :-) It seems to me it has the advantage
of:
* conventional familar methodology
* prior usage examples
* ties into standard authentication framework
* independent of logon method.
* should interoperate well with other components.
