Thanks for all your  quick replies.
I'm using rygel as media server. I changed the device type to 'MediaRenderer:1' in the service
descriptions files and my WiFi digital photoframe is able to browse data shared by the rygel server. The Gigaset M740 is still not able to
browse it. I'll check if there are any updates available from phillips for the photoframe. Sadly the Gigaset M740 isn't maintained anymore so I'll do some sniffings and report it here.  

BTW: I'm quite sure that the Gigaset M740 uses libupnp-1.2. So if there is any known issue with libupnp pointing me there might help me out quicker.
