any idea who that might be? :)

gnome-press-contact is the official address, it's an alias for another
mailing list.

There are also press contacts per region, the list is here:

I think something like this should do:

"Hi,

GNOME 2.22 will be released by the GNOME project on Wednesday the 12th
of March. We've prepared a press pack for the release which summarises
the main improvements in this release, which represents six months of
work by our community.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask at
gnome-press-contact gnome org, or at your local press contact listed on
http://www.gnome.org/press/ We would appreciate if you could hold on
publishing your article until after the release on the 12th. The release
will be announced on the gnome-announce-list mailing list, at
http://www.gnome.org and elsewhere.

Please let us know if you plan to write a story so that we can link to you.

Thanks!

Cheers,
Dave.
