autogen.sh references specific versions of automake and aclocal on lines 18 and 19.

This does not work on Fedora 8 because it includes newer versions of both tools. 

I suggest replacing the specific references with:

${AUTOMAKE=automake}
${ACLOCAL=aclocal}

I think that should work across all the different distros and versions of linux.
