Re: [orca-list] Our list will be moving to Discourse

Hi,

One more decision that woun't improve anything at least for a11y.
If you don't want to use mailman any more switch to simpa.

If the orca-list will move to a webbaed forum I.ll stop using it!

Don't get me wrong Discourse has some really, really nice
features under the hood. But....it is not as quick or easy to respond to
emails or skip over topics I don't much care for, for example I can just go
down to the next message in  Mutt or Thunderbird, vs having to go down the
topic list then wait for Firefox or Brave or Chromium or whichever browser
I'm using to load up the page then scroll all the way down and past the
message I want

Thats the biggest problem IMHO. It will take much more time for blind users
to read through the content and post messages. It will be useable maybe,
never tested it, but it will be more complicated.
I feel like the idea of moving to a web based forum isn't really practical in
the long run for simplicity and ease of use, honestly. It's taking away the
quick and easy part of a mailing list

Full ACK.

On the other ahnd there seems to be the possebility to use Discourse also
via mail. A quick search gave the following result:

---
Using Discourse as a mailing list

 1. Sign up to Discourse using your email address, and log in.
 2. Click user icon, then your user name:
 3. Click “Preferences”:
 4. Click “Emails”:
 5. Click “Enable mailing list mode”, and select frequency of emails:
 6. By default, you will be subscribed to posts in all categories.
-----

If that really will work it would be OK maybe also for those persons who
like not to use the webbased version.

Cheers,
