Re: [orca-list] initial thoughts after installing plasma 5.26 beta

Howdy,

there is an initial implementation for accessibility for Konsole. but it still seems not to work yet. we identified the wrong role as one of the issues. this needs to be fixed to make konsole work.
the issue is tracked in KDE Collaboration tool phabricator:
https://phabricator.kde.org/T10099

for accessibility we will move to KDE´s new gitlab instance as its more accessible to you guys. this should give you all the possibility to help more easy as gitlab accessibility is relative good.

Hi.
How is accessibility in the terminal? I ask because it is a tool that I use a lot.
Thanks.

Howdy,

thanks for the feedback. For your information. you can focus the panel with "Meta + P" there you should be able to navigate with arrow keys (left right) between all available plasmoids (notification area, network and so on).

The settings window  (KCM - KDE Control Module)  still has a lot of accessibility issues. so this needs to be fixed codewhise. some panes are already available. some are not working yet. this is because its a mixture of technology's. the panels what are using QT widgets directly will work. the others are using QML. those are currently not able to proxy the accessibility information (special the active focus). but its on my priority list :). for now maybe OCRdesktop can help a little.

Hi all:

Just because I'm a little curious, I gave the beta of Plasma 5.26 a spin. Here's what I've found so far.

1. I was able to start a plasma session using Lightdm and press alt+super+s to launch Orca after a few seconds.

2. Pressing alt+f1, allowed me to browse the kick-off menu and can launch applications

3. I can get to settings, and browse to the category I want to see, such as accessibility

Once I am in here, I hear layered pain, but no speech other than that. Is there something I need to do to make these other items speak? Also, how do I shutdown my system from Plasma?

I would definitely appreciate any other feedback.

Guy
