Ubuntu works this time but next time it might be Mint. I really think 
its that for some reason, the driver doesn't happen to be in the kernel 
on the Mint installation ISO. But I've had that happen to me on Ubuntu 
and Debian too. Try again in a month and maybe it will work. I'm a 
Debian and Ubuntu user but if I were you, I wouldn't give up on Mint so 
quickly. Try a USB headset to do the install and maybe after the 
install, the sound card will be recognized.

Right now, if you install Ubuntu, you cannot use speakup. The Ubuntu 
22.04 kernel doesn't include speakup modules. You'd have to recompile 
the kernel to get it. So maybe you don't care about speakup but my point 
is that all distros have their problems.
