Re: [orca-list] Plugin system gsettings Migration

I feel like Orca should b e desktop agnostic. That way it can reach as many people as is possible. There's already a mindset among certain blind users that even if a desktop (like say, Budgie right now) uses the Gnome ATK stack, it isn't accessible because it isn't Gnome or Mate, both of which have access issues.

So if Orca is desktop and distro agnostic, it can work across as many desktops with Gnome's ATK stack as possible and allow as many people as possible to use Orca no matter what DE they are using. Okay, okay, I'm biased. I got my own custom Ratpoison Arch setup and I like being able to go in and tweak my Orca settings on the fly as needed. So no. I'm against Orca's settings being tied to one specific desktop. That's locking it down. I'm fine with Orca being part of Gnome's AK stack, and having that as part of /any/ desktop.

Linux is, after all, about choice. If anything we need more desktops to work with Orca, not less so people have a lot more choices in how they use their computers. Gnome is /not/ a lightweight DE, that'd also lock folks with older hardware from being able to use the plugin, right?computdSE a

why we need Screen reader preferencies in gnome control center or some other environment settings app?

Orca should work in any desktop environment and sticking to Gnome center or other such app make break this.

also it will be unclear how to, for example, reset broken configuration or transfer it to an other computer..

and benefits are very unclear.
