In a lot of apps, just the alt key does not display any menu, you have to press alt f for file, alt e for edit, etc.
f10, though, works just like the alt key, in every occasion, as far as I've seen until now.

What do you mean by this,
Note that the menus are accessed with F10 in some applications. However, Alt with the appropriate letter of a menu options still generally works.
I understand the first part about using F10,but what about the second part? Like Alt F for file?
