I don't want any autodetect even if it were possible.  I tend to use the 
desktop layout on my laptop as I have an insert which is easy to locate as 
I use it all the time even at command line.  I prefer leaving the capslock 
alone unless I need it.  I do use a laptop layout on some machines on 
bothorca and nvda but if I have the option and an insert key I will use 
that.

In the past I have had the laptop setup and either not been able to use 
the capslock for it's normal purpose or have it decide to go into capslock 
when I use it as a modifier without telling me it had.  That can make 
paswords a real problem among other things.
