Re: [orca-list] Another Riot issue, this one on Chromium

+ Orca list

Hey Nolan.

Thanks! Today I believe I got to the bottom of Orca getting suck in Riot in Chromium. Hopefully this is now fixed for you in Orca master. I also committed some changes which should use the children-removed events we get from Chromium to recover when you wander into the Message Actions toolbar.

I still want to find a way to completely prevent one from wandering into that thing via caret navigation. (I believe Orca's triggering the object's appearance on occasion rather than the Riot developers making it popup on our behalf. But I need to do some more debugging on that front, and long week was long.)

Anyhoo, hopefully things are improved on the navigation front with Riot in Chromium. Please let me know.

Here is a debug.out with latest Orca master under Chromium 84.0.4132.0. Here I press up-arrow again and again and again. ALl I hear is "toolbar". Or maybe "message toolbar," I'm listening to someone else's phone conversation in my other ear and it's messing with my memory. :) In any case, definitely gets stuck for me.

Thanks! So I may or may not be seeing what you're seeing. What I'm seeing is that when I arrow up from the "Send a message..." entry:

* Firefox let's me read each message line by line from the bottom up.
* Chromium periodically says something about a toolbar and then skips
  the message. Rinse and repeat.

Is that what you're referring to by "stuck"? Or are you finding cases where Orca keeps saying "toolbar" repeatedly each time you arrow, finding nothing else? And/or cases where Orca says "toolbar" and then fails to say anything at all when you arrow?

Since I can reproduce a problem, I'm going to tackle it first. If it's not *the* problem you're reporting, then I need another hint. :)

Hey Nolan.

I tried to take a look at your files Sunday or Monday, but the link had already expired. If you still have the files and could email them to me, that would be great. Or re-Firefox Send them and I promise to download them right away. :)

Failing that, what toolbar am I looking for? Does Orca call it something or just say "toolbar"?

Thanks!

Here I am again with Riot, that bane of Orca's existence. :)

Chromium 84.0.4125.0, Orca master. I'm getting a different focus issue when arrowing through messages on riot.im/develop. When arrowing up or down, focus sometimes lands on a toolbar and gets stuck. When it does, it bounces around unpredictably. The bounces aren't as bad as Firefox, where I'm thrown to the beginning of the messages list which triggers scrolling, which reads new messages and slows down the experience. But I see it in the latest Electron app, as well as in the latest Chrome.

I've linked two debug.out files. debug1.out was created after I restarted Orca and had already arrowed up to and gotten stuck in a message. You can see me arrowing down, and having focus bounce to the beginning of the message, arrowing down again, etc. When I arrow up, focus seems to get unstuck.

debug2.out is me starting on the message entry, arrowing up, then eventually arrowing back down and getting stuck in another message. Sometimes I get stuck when arrowing up, but I made it a decent way this time and only got stuck when switching directions.

Anyhow, let me know if I can provide any additional details. Sorry for being so spammy about Riot. Here are the logs:
