Re: [orca-list] DBus Broker and orca/ ATK / AT-SPI?

Hey Peter.

Thanks! Looking at your debug.out, the minute+ period where absolutely
nothing is happening is right in the middle of processing an event. That
makes me think AT-SPI2 itself is extremely busy or otherwise unhappy.

I'll give this some thought, but if you could file a bug against
at-spi2-core, perhaps Mike Gorse will have some ideas and/or could work
with you to debug it further.

Hello,

Here is my debug log: https://files.pvagner.tk/f/24470182589d4253b01b/?dl=1

It went like this:

* I have started recording the log when focused on a collapsed folder
list in thunderbird

* I have pressed right arrow to expand.

* There is some expanded event in the log, keyboard events and a few
name change events. That's all expected I think.

* Then I'm pressing down arrow key.

* From this moment it gets interesting. I suspect Thunderbird becomes
crazy, orca receives some content change events from the terminal window
where I have started thunderbird from,

then it receives some more events from thunderbird not being able to
retrieve object states assuming the focused object is dead.

* Then it looks like I may have stripped out a part of the log because
more than a minute there is nothing added into it. I promise I haven't
modified it.

* During those moments I have pressed ctrl key perhaps each 20 seconds
or so to find out if orca is responding or not.

* Finally I have pressed blindly left arrow key several times to
collapse folders tree view, exited thunderbird by pressing ctrl+q,
pressed left and right arrow keys several times to make sure thunderbird
is closed and the underlying terminal window is in focus, closed the
terminal window by typing in exit and pressing enter, landed on another
terminal window where I have started orca from and pressed ctrl+c to
exit orca.

I was doing all this with no feetback from orca doing it all blindly so
the description might be a bit rough.

I am afraid there is very little that can be done about it but
newertheless I tried to describe the situation as best as I can.

If you think I might try something else or describe some steps better,
please let me know.

Greetings

Peter

Hey Peter.

Could you please send me a full debug.out when the problem is occurring?
I don't know if I'll be able to do anything, but I'll certainly take a
look.

Thanks!

Hello,

I have figured out a way that works this around for me.

The problem is that I have multiple accounts in thunderbird. Two of them
have more than 10000 messages in the inbox folder and one has only about
100 messages in inbox.

I like to collapse all the folders before exiting thunderbird so when it
starts no folder is opened.

My original steps were as follows:

0) Start thunderbird with all folders collabsed in the list of message
folders.

1) Focus folder list, hold down ctrl key and find the account I wish to
read.

2) Release the ctrl key and press right arrow key to expand the account.

3) Press the down arrow key to select inbox for that account.

Results:

No more accessibility interaction unless I kill thunderbird and restart
orca by calling orca --replace .

Workaround:

If I won't press down arrow in step 3 to navigate to a folder with too
many messages and navigate to a different folder with only a few
messages inside instead all is working fine and I can browse all folders
no matter how many messages there are in those folders.

DBUS broker is really a life changer as I can really navigate even huge
mail folders containing more than 70000 messages.

So it looks as if initial folder focused immediatelly when connecting to
the server affects this.

Also I have configured all my accounts not to cache messages offline. I
am not sure but I suspect this might be important also.

So finally workaround is found and I can live with it until something
else breaks in sucha a way I will have more issues.

Greetings

Peter

Hello,

I'm running Thunderbird daily currently at version 68.

I'll try the stable version later today to see if I'll be getting
these lockups with that version too.

Greetings

Peter
