Re: [orca-list] Configuring Orca to use Braille display

Thanks. On Fedora, brlapi is indeed a separate package. I installed it, uncommented the api-options option to use the brl group in /etc/brltty.conf, added myself to that group, then logged out and back in. brltty is restarted. Is there anything else I need to run to make brlapi work? I still see "screen not in text" on my display.

Hey Nolan

First, are you sure that the brlapi package be installed?

I ask because some distribution ship it separately from brltty itself.

Also, depending on the settings in /etc/brltty.conf you could need some
configuration, for instance here (using an unmodified brltty.conf):

Have a file /etc/brlapi/key
Make it belong to the braille group
Make yourself as regular user member of the braille group

Best,

Didier

Hey folks,

Just picked up an Orbit Reader 20. I seem to have gotten it working with brltty in that it displays "Screen not in
text mode," but despite enabling the Braille checkbox in Orca and restarting, I can't make it work.

I gather I need to enable brlapi, but what settings are needed in /etc/brltty.conf? I enabled the setting to
authenticate all connections via local socket, but maybe that isn't what I want? A quick Google didn't reveal
anything helpful.

Thanks.
