HI Nick,
as root (or using sudo), edit the file /etc/speech-dispatcher/speechd.conf
and uncomment this line:
#AddModule "espeak" "sd_espeak" "espeak.conf"
That is, remove the leading # so it becomes:
AddModule "espeak" "sd_espeak" "espeak.conf"
You will need to logout then login for this change to be effective.
Then, espeak should appear in the list of synthesizers.
Best,
Didier

Hi Alex,
I do have espeak installed but it does not show up as an option in Orca under the list of synthesizers.
Any ideas how I can get Orca to work with espeak instead of espeak-ng?
Regards,
Nick

It looks like its an issue with espeak-ng.
Could you install Espeak to verify that? After that, you could probably try to report an issue upstream.
Thanks for involvement to help digging with this.
Best regards,
Alex.
