Use the square breckets to initially select the part of the track you 
wayt. To extend the selection to the right, use shift+right arrow. To 
extend the selection to the left, use shift+left arrow. If you want to 
shorten the selection from the left end, use shift+control+right arrow. 
To shorten the right end of the selection, shift+control+left arrow will 
do it. Hope this helps.
