Re: [orca-list] Need to make a VM

At least for me, there's no reason to apologize for having to run the occasional Windows application. I'm having trouble with VMware Player and Ubuntu 16.04 right now, but I think this is a problem unique to me. I'd suggest giving VMware Player a try. I've run Windows under VMware Player under vinux with no problem, including accessing the GUI with Orca. I'm also planning on checking out KVM, which I've hear other blind people have used successfully. Blind people have  also used Virtual Box, but my understanding is that they have to use the command line interface.

Guys,

I've got what will hopefully be a real quick question, for the most part. I say for the most part, as I hope this won't take lots of configuring and middle mucking around. If it does though, well, then, I guess it does.

Anyway, LOL,

I need to install a VM of Windows which I can run on top of my Ubuntu Mate 17.10 machine.

I know a lot of you, if not most wouldn't advise doing this for security and stability, but I don't have much a choice. The class which I'm taking online uses a piece of software which s propriatary, and absolutely has no, alternative nor Linux port. Believe me, I looked for hours.

I don't plan to use Windows hardly at all. I'm only needing it for this one thing, really. I've talked to the instructor, and they are unwilling to move to a Linux capable platform, which is unfortunate, but it's what it is.

So, are there any good VM managers out there which would work with the official build of Orca packaged with Ubuntu 17.10? I don't yet feel comfortable building it from the git hub without a lot of help along the way.

I know about Virtualbox, but I hear there are definitely some issues with it, and Orca.

I'm not afraid to learn a few command line things, as long as they are fairly easy, which I hear Virtualbox can be a bit of a pain on the CLI.

Help much appreciated.

Chris.
