Re: [orca-list] persistent issues with antergos and mate

I have no problem at all over here with antergos.  The only thing is that I do not use mate desktop.  I only use gnome.  You are talking to someone who would not use a gui at all if he didn't have to.  The only reason this is on here is that there are so many problems anymore with getting speakup to work and getting onto some web sites I need.

On the subject of orca, I have had this install for quite some time and have never had a problem with it.  All the packages on here are updated as often as they come out.  Also, my girlfriend is running antergos on her machine and she is having no problem.

In conclusion, it must be a mate problem.  Try gnome just to see if it works.  If it doesn't, try all your sound devices to see if there is something muted somewhere.

If it does work with gnome, this might be the desktop you have to go with.  If not, and all your hardware is unmuted, I have no idea what's going on there.  Everything works fine here and there is no way we can reproduce your problem except to say try installing on a different machine if you have one.

These are the kinds of problems you are unlikely ever to find solutions to on the web.  They are so rare that there is probably no documentation of them.  Just try gnome first, if it doesn't work, try unmuting the sound card to see what happens.  If this doesn't help, try installing on a different machine.  Just make sure you have the latest iso of the antergos installer.  2018.2 is already out.

Hope this helps.

Hi all

This is the fourth or fifth time I’ve tried to install antergos 18.02. The live image works fine, but the installed system will not speak. Running spd-conf doesn’t fix the issue, speech dispatcher doesn’t speak, even when running spd-say hi. Running espeak hi results in speech. Can someone else confirm this bug by downloading antergos from www.antergos.com and installing it? I do not believe this is an orca bug, but  it might be either a speech dispatcher or a security issue of some sort. Orca successfully starts, I can open the preferences but there’s no speech. I’m desperate to upgrade to mate 1.20 and finally ditch windows, which I’ve been forced to use to have a system to send emails from and troubleshoot. I could always use Ubuntu mate, but Ubuntu mate’s version of mate has some non standard indicators which seem to make the mate panel less accessible. Not inaccessible, just a little bit less accessible. I don’t mean to sound so frustrated but this issue is driving me nuts. I can’t pin it down.

Thanks
