By no means do I want to discourage you from trying linux. Quite the
contrary, I have written many messages to this list and to others on the
benefits of learning to use linux. But I don't think it helps to sugar
coat things. You should prepare yourself for a steep learning curve.
It is difficult for anyone to switch operating systems. Mac people find
it frustrating to try to learn Windows. Windows users find it
frustrating to try to learn a Mac. But if you have to learn the screen
reader on top of it, it is very difficult. The reason is that there will
be times when you want to do something and there is a button right there
on the screen to do it. But you won't know it is there. Worse, you won't
know the screen reader well enough to poke around to find it.
IMO, the best way to deal with this problem is to start with a tutorial
on the operating system itself. Pick a version of linux and then google
for guides on getting started. Of course, a lot of those are going to
say "click" and that will be a problem. Maybe we can help you find a
tutorial after you have selected whether you want to start with Ubunt,
Red Hat, or something else.

Hi All,
Thank you to those of you who have replied.
Sorry my questions are vague but I aren’t really sure where to start.
I have heard of ubuntu and would mainly be using mail, some kind of equivalent to Word, internet explorer and
an audio editing software like audacity. I also need something like NVDA speech as I am blind.
Thanks again.
Vicki.

What are your questions/concerns, exactly? Your question is too general.
