We are talking about a sound, not words.
Sounds can play in as little as a tenth of a second and be understood by many, certainly a half second sound
can be distinguished by just about everyone
with fair or better hearing. Speech takes longer, e.g. even at very fast word per minute counts it takes
longer to hear two words than to hear a sound
icon. For those who listen to their screenreaders at more typical rates the difference is greater, and for
some words are more distracting than a
non-verbal sound for communicating relatively sinmple information.

Well, Orca tells me almost always when it enters focus or browse
mode. It's the same with turning it on or off by way of alt-super-s.
Am I missing something in your question? Thanks!

hi all
Does anyone else think it would be nice to have the option of having
sounds for when you enter and exit focus/browse mode, and when orca is
turned on and off? Configurable of course, since some people will want
one or the other. This is not a critical feature or anything,I just
thought I'd bring it up while I was thinking about it. Can orca's sound
support be used for this, rather than having to ship sound files?
Thanks
