hi
I completely agree re testing. We should all test wayland under as many
desktops as we can that are accessible, currently only gnome. You're
right that the other accessibility features don't work right, or in some
cases at all, and this is being fixed. I see a lot of traphic about this
on the fedora lists so it's known and being worked on. There's talk of
a complete rewrite of the at-spi protocol, since wayland is all about
security and at-spi relies on other applications injecting things into
the running system, which is a big no no under wayland, so I'm sure it
will get fixed. We should do our part though.

Hi,
Actually, if you read that article again, it won't be a default in
Fedora 24, but an option to choose from the session screen.
It could be a default in Fedora 25, but as we see - it's not final until
it's final, i.e. the respective version is released.
I also was going to ask about Orca under Wayland, til I've read this wiki:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Wayland_features
"Screen reading (orca) works more or less the same as under X: all the
accessibility traffic goes over D-Bus (the a11y bus, to be precise). ".
The other accessibility features seem non-existant though. And I can't
find anything about the magnification.
But you're right - when it's final - it would be too late. Though as I
understand it, accessibility is one of the major things, which holds
Wayland being the default in Fedora 24
I hope they won't rush it and will make it the default when it's really
ready. Cause there are other users with other complaints as well.
I think we should test it extencivly and report any issues, so when it
becomes the only option - they would not be any surprizes.
Best wishes,
Zahari

hi
Luckily, wayland is very accessible. There were some bugs that caused
mouse clicks to not work, but I believe these have been fixed by now. I
use gnome running under wayland all the time and have no problems. Mate
doesn't support wayland yet, but they are going to add support, I'm just
not sure when. Joanie knows a lot more than I do about wayland though,
I'm sure she'll chime in.

Hi all,
as I read, Fedora 24 default session will be wayland. Can you please
tell me, what is the main difference between x-session and wayland and
what about accessibility? Will it be accessible? Why is wayland
better? I tried wayland with Fedora 21 and there was good
accessibility work in focus, where after closing the app, Orca focused
to top panel and not to nothing. But can be the wayland used for every
day? What do you think?
The article is here:

Thanks,
Pavel
