Limited memory on the O.P.'s machine with your memory being larger may
make a difference.

Maybe try this thread on the blinux list.
There should be some emacs users though on that list.
I'm not sure why its slugggish. I don't find it to be as so. Maybe when
arrowing down. But it seems ok for most uses.

Okay, it's built, and I just tried it. It's still sluggish. If anyone else
is having this problem, please let me know, and if anyone is on the
Emacspeak list, can they ask that list about it? I've tried signing up to
that list a few times, but I still haven't gotten a single email from it.
