hi all. THis has been on my to report list for a while but i've kept
forgetting. NOw that there don't seem any critical bugs to be worked
out at the moment it seems the right time. Orca appears to have two
very odd bugs that I can't track down exactly. The first is when
changing profiles. If you load a new profile that has different rate,
pitch, etc settings than the one you wer using orca reloads the
profile, but keeps the voice settings from the original one except in
the case of a different speech synthesizer. To completely change over
to the new profile you need to open the orca preferences again, and
press alt+o to reload the preferences. THen the profile takes effect
fully. I likely wouldn't have noticed this but my fiance's computer
has eloquence on it, and I often switch between espeak and eloquence
when she goes to use it. ORca will load eloquence, but use the rate
and pitch settings from espeak until I reload the preferences again.
THe next is similar but not exactly. If you change synthesizers in
orca's voice settings, and then reload orca's settings, orca will load
it's settings and then refuse to speak until you run orca --replace or
turn the screen reader off and on again in gnome. This could be a
speech dispatcher bug, actually they both could be, just thought I'd
report them here. Neitehr of these bugs are showstoppers. NOw back to
my morning coffee.
Thanks
Kendell clark
