The chatter about the chat feature in Thunderbird can probably be
stopped by toggling off live region monitoring with the
Orca+Shift+Backspace key.
I'm not sure about the font information but Orca+f will read the font
information. Is it possible you're hitting this key combination? I hit
it inadvertently myself when using the 'f' key to advance to the next
message.
Note that the term "latest stable Ubuntu" is still ambiguous, and it
would be good if you could provide more precise version numbers.

I seem to get a lot of extra information read out when using Thunderbird
such as the font type and maybe other useless information.
I am using the latest stable Ubuntu with the version of Orca that comes
with it by default.
I don't know if all the useless information being read has anything to
do with my version of Orca, the version of Thunderbird or what.
I also keep getting Orca prompting me about the chat part of Thunderbird
when I open the app.
