Re: [orca-list] accessible Systems that are not Vinux for the beginner?

Vinux 4 is based on Ubuntu 12.04 which is still supported on both the desktop and server platforms. It's true the accessibility stack has been held back, but I still use this as my everyday system at home, and the desktop interface and accessibility stack become less significant if you're talking about server systems.

Vinux 5 is in beta, is based on Ubuntu 14.04, and the accessibility stack has been kept up to date and is even ahead of some other distros since Ubuntu and Vinux is the platform used by some of the accessibility developers. I find the Vinux 5 beta is pretty solid and I use it frequently in a virtual machine. I'll be moving my netbook to Vinux 5 and using the Mate desktop as soon as I get enough free time.

I'm not trying to talk you into using Vinux, but "way out of date" is a bit misleading depending on what you're talking about, and the server space is even more cautious and slow when moving from one version to the next, which is why Canonical, Red Hat and others, have such long support plans in place for their server systems.

Hello,
I am pretty new to Linux (I have played around with Vinux quite a lot),
but it is not my main distro and I don't use it a lot.
I am looking into learning more about servers and getting familiar with
the Linux environment.
What system would you recommend? Vinux is way out of date and I would
like to keep updated as much as possible.
The systems other people recommend are Ubuntu and Debian, but I've seen
CentOS also.
I see Sonar is more updated than Vinux, how would it be for my
situation? I would be using it at first in a VM, but would hope to move
it to a partition if I liked it enough.
Thanks,
