Hello,
You can go to app specific screen reader preferences when you do have
firefox or thunderbird open by pressing orca+ctrl+space. You will find
Firefox or Thunderbird tab in that dialog depending on the app you
inwoked screen reader preferences from. On that tab you can find the
following checkboxes controling automatic focus vs browse mode switching:
Automatic focus mode during caret navigation
Automatic focus mode during structural navigation.
Note that the first one is enabled by default where the second one is
disabled by default.
Greetings
Peter

Is it possible to turn off the automatic switching between browse and
focus modes?
There are times when I would find it useful if orca stayed in browse
mode, for example when exploring a page and not intending to enter data.
Thanks
Keith Barrett
Thanks
