Re: [orca-list] orca silent on skype and vlc media player

Hi,
i reinstallled my ubuntu 14.04 today and found that orca cannot speak when inside qt apps such as skype and vlc. When i did sudo apt-get instal qt-at-spi it said it is at latest version. i also added the ppa, ppa:vinux/trusty and performed sudo apt-get update before. still, vlc is silent as wel as skype. is there anything i can do? running orca 3.14.2 on gnome 3.12.2
yes, gnome 3.12 and orca 3.14.

For Orca 3.14 the PPA is:
ppa:vinux/trusty.
One can find tie instructions on launchpad site of Vinux.

hi
I think I may have a solution, or rather, what's causing the problem.
If you're using the default ubuntu orca packages, you're still on orca
3.12. There was a nasty bug with qt applications that was fixed in
mater between 3.12 and 3.14. If you want vlc media player to talk, try
upgrading to 3.14. I don't have specific instructions, since I'm on
arch, but I do know there's an accessibility PPA you can grab that has
the latest orca and at-spi.
Thanks

Hello, It sounds like you don't have qt-at-spi package installed.
Try installing it using apt-get or using software centre you
should then get access to QT4 based apps like VLC media player.

Hi, using ubuntu 14.04 gnome (gnome 3.12), orca 3.14 and vlc.

when in vlc app, orca silent speech. but when alt tab out of
it, speech is resume. But when on vlc, orca commands work. This
can be supported by this evidence, when pressing insert+space
to launch orca preferences, the dialog launches and orca starts
speaking.

so any solution?
