[orca-list] Is it my own ignorance or a real issue

Dear list,
I am working with ubuntu 14.4. I am using gnome-shell and faced with the 
following problem. I don't get any speech in smplayer, movieplayer vdo 
vlc.at the same time orca speeks if I press f-ten in unity mode.
Again in unity, orca does not speek what I type in searchbox.please help 
me at the earliest.
