Documentation of the sort you're looking for is frequently lacking, 
incomplete or out of date in small projects with limited resources. 
Could your contribution be to help generate some documentation by 
looking through code, dropping in on the right IRC channels and setting 
up some meetings between yourself and other developers? I'm just tossing 
out some ideas to get the ball rolling. Creating such documentation 
would be a project in and of itself.
