I also like very much the idea, but I would also prefer a combination
other than orca F12.

Howdy,
I like the idea, but not the keybinding. For something that will be
used heavily on some webpages, orca+f12 is a bit of an inconvenient
stretch. Would orca+a work for the keybinding by default?
Thanks

I think using Orca plus F12 is a good idea.

As a result, here's what I'm thinking/wondering: What if Orca always
controls the caret when that setting is enabled? This would be
somewhat
like forms mode: When you want to interact with a form control --
or an
ARIA app -- using the arrow keys, you would turn off caret
navigation by
pressing Orca + F12. When you wanted to move around in the text, you
would turn on caret navigation by pressing Orca + F12. Orca would stop
doing this automatically.
If you are on a SELECT element, this should also prevent inadvertently
changing the value by pressing up/down arrow keys with the intention of
merely
moving the focus.
