Re: [orca-list] Firefox caret issue

Hi Joanie,
I have updated master and for 10 minutes tried to re-produce with no
success.
It does seem that this bug I have been experiencing since January has
been fixed.
The only time that I could semi re-produce is by opening a link in a new
page, shiftenter, closing it and trying to navigate to a heading button
etc straight after closing the window.
It only happens if done so quite fast after closing the link openned in
the new window.
How ever in that case moving down a workspace and back up again makes
everything happy again so I suspect it is just a case of Orca scripts
not being loaded before I attempt the command maybe.

Thank you for fixing this.
Will make my day to day experience with Firefox so much more relaxing.

Kind regards
Rob Whyte

Hey Rob.

I was able to reproduce it based on your description a few times, though
not 100% reliably. I have just committed a fix to both master and the
gnome-3-12 branch and can no longer reproduce it. Could you please test
one of those branches and let me know if it is also fixed for you?

Thanks!

Hi Joanie,
I have been unable to have a specific set of actions resulting in the
described behaviour.
How ever I hope this is enough.
Currently I am in Gnome-shell with vertical static workspaces.
I always use Firefox on workspace 1 and drop down to email on 2 and
subsequent spaces for other apps when waiting for pages to load etc.
It is common in over half the time returning to workspace 1 with
keyboard commands control alt up arrow a few times for Firefox to be in
the state as described.
Is this enough information for you to try and re-produce? Do you use
workspaces in a similar method?
At one stage whilst still in Unity talking to Luke he thought it could
have been the window manager but using Mutter now that seems to rule it out.

Please let me know if you still would like more specific information.

Warm regards
Rob

Hi Joanie,

I had the same thought, part of my isolation process was to look at my
noscript adon and also use Firefox without my customizations, i.e adons
extensions etc.
I am using Firefox nightly
firefox-trunk
31.0~a1~hg20140410r177693-0ubuntu1~umd1.

I will now attempt to as you asked give a set of variables that can be
re-produced.

Thank you for your fast response.

Hey Rob.

I would need more specifics in order to try to reproduce it. But based
purely on what you told me thus far, my first guess is that Orca
believes that the document has started loading, but not finished loading.

What would be most helpful is having very specific steps (including
exact pages, version of firefox, keystrokes, etc.). Then I can look into
and fix it.

Thanks!

Hi,
I hope that I am able to explain this problem and someone will know the
reason for what is happening.
Let me start by saying I am running Orca master and am up to date with
atk at-spi2-core at-spi2-atk git repo's as of yesterday.

Since I started using the next Ubuntu LTS Trusty 14.04 I have had
Firefox issues.
I will open a link in a new tab or window, when I close that window or
tab and continue on the page I originated on I lose functionality with Orca.
To be precise, Control Insert Space still brings up Firefox preferences
for Orca.
Yet the navigation keys do not work, i.e H B E etc.

The solution to fixing it until it next happens is to hop in to Orca
settings with Insert Space and choose the OK button.

Then the functionality is restored.
First I thought it was Unity related, so I have spent a couple of weeks
in Gnome-shell, it still occurs.
As mentioned above upgraded other a11y technology with same results.
My next step is to try vanilla Gnome on Arch, if Arch users have the
same bug crop up my only conclusion is that it would be Orca.

Any feedback or similar bugs would be welcomed.
I have captured this in a debug file but I could not really figure out
what went wrong.

Kind regards
Rob Whyte
