May I throw another hypothesis into the mix? I never followed this up with upstream because I thought it was
a result of Ubuntu's mismatch of GNOME components, but I wonder if at-spi2-core commit
fbba09b26d6db7b6b4c889176f3769355da9c7fa has anything to do with it.

I too was experiencing issues with latest a11y stack and orca, and reverting this commit cleared things up
for me. I have reverted this commit in 13.10 as well.

If those who are able can revert this commit and test and let me know how things go, that would be great. If
its a wider issue, I'm happy to do the work to file a bug against at-spi2-core etc.

A beer for you!
After I revert the commit, I didn't experience problems related to excessive use of cpu by orca, at laest until now.
I am already using my machine for more than one hour without problems.
But the day is just beginning for me. I'll post more news if they happen.
Thanks.

Luke
