Then how am I using it to open the mail client and send this message?
Do you mean on touchscreens?

Who said Unity 3D was inaccessible? As has been discussed here, Unity 3D has some accessibility issues. I don't think anyone has said that it was unusable though. Depending on what you're doing, it might be fine.

Unity is also going through some significant changes as Ubuntu and Canonical switch to the Mir window manager and converge on QT/QML for their interface that will span their supported platforms, from the phone to the desktop. This kind of significant change always causes apprehension from an accessibility standpoint, at least for me, but I"m hoping that Luke and others help ensure that accessibility is taken into account from the beginning and we'll have another great option for an accessible desktop.

Hi,

Oh, I am sure eventually Unity will get there. I think Luke or someone
said the goal is to get Unity 3D accessible by 14.04 LTS which is
still about a year away. For us Ubuntu users there are other
alternatives until that time comes. All we have to do is be patient
and wait for it to come. All things come to he who waits.

Cheers!

I agree about Ubuntu 12.04. I do know that Canonical, Ubuntu and Unity
are addressing accessibility issues as Unity is going through so many
changes. I'm not sure what time line this will all be on, but long term
I'm optimistic that this will be another accessible desktop option for
the blind and that it'll also give us another touch interface to use on
tablets and cell phones.
