Yours must be a charmed existence; very peaceful and lacking in stuff to
worry about. I've used the Windows port of Voxin for far too long to
sit there and actually get scared (really? ... Seriously? You're
scared?) of using it in Linux because of some perceived possibility of
attack or some theoretical security hole. I figure you have a better
chance of winning the lottery than of having your system messed up just
because you use Voxin with its old libraries. So, don't be scared. All
will be well. Easy does it. shshshshshshsh.
Nighty night!

ps for the record, I don't currently use Voxin in Linux but that's
because I'm used to Espeak and don't see the point of messing with it.
I may change my mind one day.
PPS I'm using Eloquence right now as I write this on my Windows 8
machine. Gosh! I feel so brave! Or .. not. AAAAAAAAAHH, it's coming,
ma. It's gruesome! HOLD ME!

On the other hand, I'm not about to install just anything on my system
just because I can, or because it's available to me. And it scares me
even more that all the incompatibilities and 10-year-old low-level
libraries, with all their potential vulnerabilities, are hidden behind
all kinds of complex scripting, so that all I have to do is download
the archive and run the script in order to install something that
honestly shouldn't work on an OS that is less than 2 years old. The
pragmatist in me screams "STOP!" at the thought, and screams even
louder at the thought that I would actually have to pay money for
something like this. I have nothing at all against paying money for
something, but if I'm paying for it, it needs to be compatible with
the newest libraries and OS-level dependencies,, or it must at least
be compatible with the latest Ubuntu LTS without introducing outdated
and obsolete libraries that could hose my system, or could allow
someone else to gain root privileges on my machine. Paying for
something doesn't somehow make it magically better. This is a quite
unfortunate misconception.
