Re: [orca-list] seems that orca is using the wrong language when I switch to another profile

One small question is that before I hear "dicas presentes", I hear the

Generally the word mouse is not translated in Portuguese from Brazil.
Where such translation would be coming?

In terms of why Orca is saying stuff about a mouse in any language, it's
the label for the group of widgets which has speak object under mouse
and present tooltips. As for why it's not saying the correct translated
word, if my theory is correct, a brief bit of history is called for.

A while back there was a GNOME Goal to remove all markup from formatting
strings so that translators would see "Mouse" rather than
"<b>Mouse</b>". Being a good maintainer, I completed this goal for Orca.
With this history in mind:

The pt.po file has this:

   #: ../src/orca/orca-setup.ui.h:28
   msgid "Mouse"
   msgstr "rato"

But the pt_BR.po file has the old string with markup:

   #: ../src/orca/orca-setup.ui.h:8
   msgid "<b>Mouse</b>"
   msgstr "<b>Mouse</b>"

My guess is that because the string to be translated is not translated
in the pt_BR.po file, it's falling back on the pt.po translation. That
guess might be completely wrong. But in my non-translator mind, it
certainly does seem like a plausible explanation.

Perhaps you already discovered this for yourself, which is why you asked
about joining the translation team. <smiles>

Hope this helps!
