I have been trying to get Ubuntu 12.04 working, and it is terrible with Orca
from my experience.
What problems are you having with Orca and Ubuntu 12.04 and have you
reported them as bugs or posted them on the Ubuntu Accessibility mailing
list?
I'm not fond of Vinux because it uses older packages of Debian, and there is
just too much adaptation for me.
Which older packages are you referring to? I've noticed the proposed PPA
for Ubuntu 12.04 has been good about picking up newer versions of Orca
and other accessibility packages. I also think that once vinux 4.0 is
released, you'll see it picking up newer versions of Orca and other
accessibility packages as well. Vinux 3.2 and earlier are based on
Ubuntu 11.04 and earlier so they're still sticking with Gnome 2, so
can't move up to the latest Orca and so on. Other than that, is anything
keeping you from installing newer Debian packages on Vinux?
I guess it's a preference call, but what adaptations in Vinux bother
you? I personally find most of them to be things I'm going to do anyway,
such as get Speakup working or find different accessible applications.
One of the problems I had with Ubuntu 12.04 was when I logged out to try to
switch to Unity-2D, I could never log back in.
I didn't have this problem myself. I started with and stuck to Unity 2D,
but I haven't had any problem logging out and logging back on in Ubuntu
12.04.
