What I do not understand is why the problem disappears when I restart
orca.

I've experienced this as well but only after a long time has
passed. I think it may have to do with at-spi2's caching but I am
not sure. That is just a guess.

I've observed some delay in menus after I use my machine for a
while. I press the f10 key or the alt+f10 key to activate the menu
bar but orca take some time to announce that the menu is active.
The same happens when I use right and leff arrows to select another
menu. The interesting part is that if I restart orca the problem
disappears. Any ideas?
I am running ubuntu 12.04 with all updates and orca 3.4.1. Thanks.
