Re: [orca-list] Unity 2d is going away: What will happen to accessibility in 12.10

Hi, Thomas,

You are correct however, there are some other concerns such as, will the Gnome classic interfaces be kept as available packages? Gnome shell wonât come up for you if you have insufficient ram unless you force it to and then, it slows your system down. Unity 2d is much faster. I hear XFCE 4.10 will be more accessible than its predecessors for people who want minimalist guiâs but I havenât had much success with XFCE when I tried it out recently.Â

Hi Alex,

From my understanding everything is in the early planning stages. Nothing definite has been set for 12.10 yet.  However, if it does end up being the case that Unity 2D gets dropped then we still have the option of installing and using Gnome Shell. As Gnome Shell is already reasonably accessible I don't see installing Gnome Shell instead of Unity as a huge problem.
