Hi Andrea,
"1) After doing the updates recommended from ubuntu updater, my alt+f4
and alt+tab and probably more keys are not working anymore... so I
went into system settings, keyboard, shortcuts and set close window to
alt+f4 and switch applications to alt+tab... but after some use things
get back to theyr original state, meaning the keys are undefined
again.
what's wrong with my system?"
There is a well known bug in Ubuntu 12.04 were Metacity causes your
shortcut keys to be undefined. One way to fix this is to create
ascript that deletes the Metacity settings from your home directory
which will restore your keyboard shortcuts. Off hand I can't remember
the directory that you need to remove, but I can look it up once I get
back on a Ubuntu 12 box.
"2) where can I find the boot up utility so that I can change order of
booting since my linux is installed along windows?
In system settings I am not able to locate something of that kind."
The program that boots your system is called grub. You can not
configure it from system settings. You will have to go into terminal
and edit your /boot/grub.menu.lst file to change the boot order of
your operating systems manually. Plus you can configure the timeout as
well here.
"3) 2 years ago more or less, I bought a voxin extension for orca to
support italian as language.
I saved the package, but to install in ubuntu 12.04 probably I need a
newer version, how can i obtain it? I don't have anymore the original
link of the email...."
Yes, you will need an updated version. What you should do is extract
the version you have to a directory such as
~/Extract/Voxin-x.x
where x.x stands for the version you have. then, go to the Oralux
website and download the latest update. Extract the updated packages,
scripts, and copy them into your existing Voxin-x.x directory which
should update it to the current version. Now, just run the Voxin
install script and you are done.
Cheers!
