Re: [orca-list] Orca and XFCE

Hi,

It is my understanding that Unity is basically a replacement for the
Gnome shell. It uses all the same apps, libraries, etc as Gnome but
Unity replaces the Gnome 2 shell, panels, etc with a 3d shell
environment. Correct me if I'm wrong. To be honest I haven't explored
the diferences between Unity and Gnome on the technical side, but I do
know that Unity is based on Gnome but the user interface is quite
different.

Cheers!

I may be getting my terms mixed up, but I don't think using the Classic
Desktop in Ubuntu 11.04 involves Gnome Shell. It's my understanding that
Gnome Shell is the basis for Gnome 3, i.e.

Desktop in Ubuntu 11.04 just takes you back to Gnome 2.

Hi Glenn,

For the moment if you are using Ubuntu 11.04 the best thing to do is
from the gdm prompt select Classic Desktop which will load Gnome 2.32
using Gnome Shell instead of Unity.

Hi,
I went to the XFCE page, and I cannot tell if it is ready for use yet,
furthermore, I do not know if there is a live ISO and if Orca will work
with
it.
I am quite disappointed with Unity in Ubuntu, so I am looking for a
change
and if anyone can offer help here.
Thanks for any insight.
Glenn
